As we ask ourselves the question this Christmas season, "Why Did Jesus Come?", we have to ask if he came for all the reasons we celebrate the holidays. One thing I like about celebrating Christmas in our weekend celebrations is that there is no pretense... we ALL know why we are gathered to sing and to celebrate... it is because of Jesus' birth. But do people that we see everywhere else - at work, at school, driving in our cars, at home, at the store, at the ball game - know that is why we personally are celebrating Christmas?
We learned Sunday that Jesus came to "replace darkness". He is the "true light that gives light to every man". The questions is, are you reflecting that light? John 1 says that John the Baptist "came as a witness to testify concerning that light." Later in the chapter, it says that John "testifies concerning Him (Jesus)". We need to be mirrors of Jesus. We cannot produce light, but we can reflect the light that is Jesus.
Take the challenge this Christmas season to reflect light and help Jesus replace the darkness in the world. You cannot forcefully remove darkness... darkness is replaced with light. Let's shine the light of Jesus by being a mirror! If we do, the world will never be the same again!

This reminds me of a Christian Art Display entitled "Reflections of Man"
Display #1 "Here I AM" The artist used a silver diamond mounted against a silver background to represent a person who identifies himself by his accomplishments or status in life. These people usually have a tremendous following for a while. This display can also represent Christians who have transferred their backgrounds to the Church, although they truly love Jesus they get caught up in what they are doing 'for' Him and not 'with' Him. They are shining their light their way and most often only to their circle of Christian acquaintances.
Display #2 "Where AM I" is represented by a transparent diamond against a black background which can represent non-Christians and Christians alike. Obviously those who are without Christ are lost! However, many Christians going through difficult circumstances do not know how to 'glory' in what God is trying to do through them because it is unfamiliar to them and they quickly become the 'complainers' in the Church.
Display #3 is also a transparent diamond mounted on a black background. It is titled "I Am Yours". This diamond seems to have a light within it. God's Son is a Great Light to those who believe. "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." (Isaiah 9:1-2) God is searching for those who will be willing to be on display for Him...letting the light of Jesus within them to so shine before all men! "We are on Display mounted in the settings of our circumstances!" Diamonds in the rough. Iris
